On Thursday 16 October 2025, Alex Pease, our Chief Executive Officer, attended the launch of Mind’s Big Mental Health Report at the House of Commons, alongside leading voices in mental health, policymakers, and charity partners.

The event brought together influential speakers including Baroness Gillian Merron, Sojan Joseph MP, Professor Tanya Byron, and Dr Sarah Hughes, CEO of Mind. Together, they explored what’s shaping the nation’s mental health — and what needs to change.

Mind’s Big Mental Health Report is an important milestone in their mission to transform mental health across the UK. It draws on extensive research and lived experience, and shines a light on the challenges people face and the urgent need for stronger support, fairer funding, and joined-up action.

Key findings from the report

• 1 in 5 adults in England is living with a common mental health problem — and rates are rising

• Adults in the most deprived areas experience mental health problems at much higher rates (26.2%) than those in the least deprived (16%)

• With around 5.5k cases annually, self-harm is one of Wales' top 5 causes of hospital admission

• Mental wellbeing has declined steadily since 2016–17

• In 2023 1 in 5 young people (aged 8-25) reported living with a probable mental health problem

• The pandemic, cuts to public services, and rising child poverty have all contributed to worsening mental health.

As Dr Sarah Hughes shared, “We can only change things when we understand what’s really going on — and work together to make it better.”

Alex commented:

“This event really brought home to me just how important this charity is and how vital it is that we support it. Mental health can impact across all areas of our lives and business, from our employees at work and our families, to our customers living in our buildings. It is critically important that we talk about mental health, demystify it and try to source help for it as soon as possible. This year we have run a number of charity events in support of Mind, we want to continue and grow this support over the coming years.”
