Throughout this week we have heard from amazing women who hold a variety of roles across Watkin Jones Group.
Today we hear from Sarah Sergeant, who is one of the less than 20% of CFOs in FTSE 350, AIM and Small Cap companies that are female.

What does your average day look like?
It’s very true to say that no day is ever the same, which is one of the best things about my job. A CFO role is so far away from being a ‘beancounter’ in an office. I can be visiting my finance team in Chester, doing a site visit to meet our teams, collaborating with my Executive team colleagues, or meeting potential investors.
What’s amazing about your job?
Finance is the lifeblood of a business, so keeping that flowing so that we can take a new land opportunity or hire great people is a fantastic and rewarding thing to do. A lot of my job is about making the right decision at the right time and making the right choice between the near-term and the longer-term strategic options for the Group. I’m also fortunate that I get to really live and breathe the business and I feel honoured that I am then responsible for selling our story to the city and to investors.
Why should women go into finance as a career?
Having a diversity of perspectives is a proven asset and finance influences so much of the world around us, so it is a great place to be at the heart of decision making. There is still a shortage of females in senior finance roles, especially within the property and development space, and I am so excited to be a role model for this.
